How Do I Stop Being A Lukewarm Christian?
Once you become a believer, I’m sure you’ve heard the term “lukewarm Christian.” It’s a label used to distinguish true followers of Christ from those who are merely pretending to follow God. But what truly is a lukewarm Christian, and how can you avoid becoming one—or stop being one?
Revelation 3:15-16 (ESV)
"I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth."
From this, we learn that we cannot serve two masters. You either live for God and follow His instructions—or you don’t. While all of us will fall short of God’s glory, what makes a true Christian is someone who recognizes their mistakes, repents, gets back up, and continues to follow God — amidst their mistakes.
For starters, there’s a massive difference between being a believer and being a follower of Jesus Christ. Even the demons believed that Jesus is the Son of God, but they didn’t follow His teachings. Many believe in God, go to church on Sunday, but don’t act on God’s instructions. Is this you?
James 1:22 (ESV)
"But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves."
If someone is lukewarm, it tells us one main thing: they aren’t spending enough time in God’s presence. Yes, it’s that simple! The truth is, when you spend devoted time with God—praying, reading the Bible, listening to worship music, etc.—He transforms you. When we get into the Word of God, His Word gets into us, changing our desires, fears, and aspirations. So take this as your sign to soak up God’s presence, because through that, the Holy Spirit will dwell in you—convicting you, guiding you, and helping you live your life in alignment with God’s will.
